Tour of Utah – Stage 2 Finish at Snowbasin Resort
2017 will mark the first year Brigham City hosts a stage start for the Tour. After rolling out of town, riders will warm up their legs on a Category 3 climb up Sardine Canyon. The route circumnavigates the Wellsville Mountains, a part of the Wasatch Mountains that is said to be the steepest mountain range in North America. Returning to the Cache Valley, the course will turn south and follow the “Fruit Highway” in Box Elder County, heading back through the start line in Brigham City for a sprint line in the points classification competition on Historic Main Street.
The race then crosses into Weber County and the roads begin to tilt upwards with the familiar North Ogden Divide, a five-kilometer climb averaging a 10 percent gradient that has been a staple of the Tour of Utah for many years. The racers catch their breath as the road flattens out around Pineview Reservoir, but they won’t have much time to relax before the first mountaintop finish of this year’s Tour at Snowbasin Resort. Perched on top of Old Snowbasin Road, this double-pitched incline covers six miles with an average gradient of six percent.
